The perks of traveling - tips and tricks for more comfortable journeys and some magic memories.

While I was writing this article I was sitting at the airport in Bordeaux for many hours after a sleepless night. That's what you get if you book super early flights. Boarding at 5.30 am is just not really my thing. But if you want to travel there is sometimes no other way - because there is not endless money for those perfect flights. Unless you travel smart - something I am still trying to bring to perfection.

As I was waiting for my friend to join from another part of Europe, I was currently enjoying my stay at the airport in an outdoor Starbucks in the sun. And Iced coffee and some sun always manage to make me happy. We headed to Hossegor for the first time. As we are always traveling super last minute we've just booked accommodation and the car on the same day as we departed. As a frequent traveller I want to share some things that make traveling easier and more comfortable. Maybe I'll extend this from time to time - but for now this is a start with some points I've learned.

Booking Accommodation:

Here I should improve a lot by myself. Always last minute and looking up too many possibilities we get stuck in all those choices. What used to be super helpful are Facebook groups where you can ask people with the same travel goals for their experiences. There is for example a group called surftravellers where you can ask for a place to stay, the best waves, surfschools or just to meet up with some surfers at the place you're heading to. This is something I love because by meeting locals you always feel home wherever you are. I often use pages like Kayak to compare flights and hotels and of course as well Airbnb. Especially for Airbnb you should not book too late because then the cool places are gone. And if you travel as a group you can get amazing places on the platform.

Car Rental:

For surftrips you often need a car. Unless you don't stay at a place where you have the spots just in front of your door. Don't let yourself fool by those guys at the agency who try to sell you another insurance on top. When you take the option with fully comprehensive insurance, you can add the option with zero deductible so you are completely safe. And with many credit cards you have already an insurance As we are always having troubles with double insurances with car hire agencies I can only recommend to check the insurance you might have with your credit card.
With the Visa Liberty Card you can rent a car at Avis and have your deductible already insured.

Cancelled flights and lost baggage:

I am a real specialist if it comes to delayed or cancelled flights. As I travel often, I face this situation regularly. It happens, that the airline companies just try to give you a voucher for flights with their planes instead of paying you the money back you had to pay for a hotel night because of a cancelled flight. Check your rights on the webpage of the airline company and then hand in all the details and receipts via email. And - don't accept the first offer they make you, if they don't pay you in money but want to give you a voucher, if you do not agree with the amount.
And if you are at the airport, something I've learned is to immediately call the hotline, while waiting in line with the other passengers to get another flight or hotel. And if you are able to speak a not so common language, choose this one in the hotline - they pick up much faster than on the german or english one.And what would I do an a blog journey with a lost baggage. I don't want to think about loosing my camera, or not knowing where it is. But as well not having your outfits to shoot can be a problem. So be prepared and keep having insurances for these cases.

During my trips I had countless experiences where I wished that I'd had the best insurance possible. With the Visa Liberty Card you have most things covered and you can even collect points you can exchange to get reduction on further travels. And you get all the security you wish for while traveling. Because the most important thing while traveling is to enjoy all the moment you experience and not to let you stop because of trifles. So having a good preparation helps a lot. I will check how traveling will be with this special Visa Liberty Credit Card with a very wide offer for travelers.

And the most important thing - I want to share some of those magic moments you can enjoy - when you don't have to worry about anything. Captured on film they find step by step the way into my home in prints on my walls and now once more on my blog for a special travel story. If you plan to travel to one of these destinations - don't hesitate to ask me for tips. I am happy to share and I'd love to hear your stories. It is always nice to get some tips and tricks from fellow travelers.

Cascais - Portugal

We were in Lisbon and headed to this lovely fisher village about an hour north. Big plus - next to its picturesque look the village offers as well some surfspots.

Rome - Italy
Rome is always a good idea. I can't get enough of the beauty of the architecture and of the italian flair. As an art history student, I am getting the full immersion of museums whenever I am there.

And - my alltime favorite  - San Sébastian - Spain

A while ago I was attending the opening of the Lululemon flagship store in Zurich.
First of all - the location is amazing. Lululemon really throw a party with probably the coolest people in Zurich. Fashion and sport came together and with so many relaxed yoga lovers you can't but just have a good time. It is not only a store but also a place to get together and get inspired. Not to forget that they have the most comfortable sportswear.

Dreaming about surfing

As I am currently facing the situation to not be able to go on a trip I am seeking for other solutions to get some "surf" done.
We might not have an Ocean but we do have a Lake and Rivers.
One of the easiest things is to go paddling. Some say it is boring but I love to be in the water in the evenings just before the sunset. And you can train your arms and back to be ready for the next Trip.
I usually go with friends so it is a fun get together.

For the Ones seeking for more action, you should try Up Stream Surfing. In a team you can make it possible to surf up the river thanks to a special invention of Simon, the guy behind this project.
It is always great fun and lots of nice people. And something similar to that surf in the waves.
With a Myclubs sportcard you can take classes either with a monthly submission or purchase a card you can use 10 times for all the sport events they offer. So don't miss it - they offer it with MyClubs every friday night. Here you can find the details.

If you haven't got enough, there is the Surf Zurich Community. (They will throw a party on Saturday 27th of August) There are several nice events happening during the year, just follow them on Facebook to stay posted about what is going on. Or take part in the next surftrip.

If you are able to take a longer weekend I can highly recommend the Element Called Water Surf Camp in Soustons, next to Hossegor. After being there for a week, we fell in love with this place and never wanted to leave. A real gem at the Atlantic Coast of France. With the most friendly hosts, a dreamy garden, a Skatebowl and even a Miniramp in their Bar where they serve delicious drinks after a self cooked dinner. The ones following me on Instagram might have seen some pictures already.

Thanks David Biedert for the pictures. Getting up at 5am in the morning was definitely worth paddling into the sunrise.

For once a different kind story from a collaboration with the guys from "Lips Brothers".

Photography by Moritz Lips. Modelling by Marina and Oliver Lips
Written by Oliver Lips.

"This is a story about a boy and a girl, both rebellious, curious about life and still figuring out who they eventually want to become. Somewhere between friendship and love they wander the streets in search of something indescribable. The city already seems too small and the urge to travel and discover new places and meet new people grows from day to day.

And so they set out for new experiences - her dressed in a tartan dress with a leather jacket and boots and him wearing a bomber jacket over an unbottoned shirt, some track pants and a pair of sneakers.

To be continued..."

Madonna del Sasso - Fairytale Monastery in Orselina

Some time ago we headed to the south part of Switzerland to escape a rainy weekend in Zurich. What we found was a lot of sun and italian flair. In the village Orselina we headed to the monestary of Madonna del Sasso. Beautifully located in the hills in between the green and just above Locarno it suited us perfectly as a shooting location. The same day Chris Burkard was on a tour with his followers through Ticino and passed by the monastery with his group. So even world famous nature photographers worship the beauty of our small country.

Happy to have this place so close to our home and there is the possibility to enjoy a longer summer in this wonderful part of Switzerland.

from dusk till dawn - Lips Brothers x Bonsoir Chérie

I am excited to reveal the continuation of the story of Street Boy and Girl  which I shared some time ago. A collaboration between Lips Brothers and Bonsoir Chérie. Inspired by filmstills of works such as Chungking Express from Wong Kar Wai and the Diesel Fall Winter Collection we found our own language.

As we follow the story of a boy and girl we discover that the night has always had a certain appeal to them. So as soon as the sun sets they put on their leather jackets and head out into the night. Fascinated by the people, the lights, the music and ultimately themselves they are in search of the endless opportunities a night out in town can bring.

It is not the polished, perfect-seeming versions of the people running up and down the streets in the daytime, but rather the aimless creatures who are looking for a couple of hours of distraction from everyday life they seem more intersted in. Still not sure who they are and want to become they are sure of one thing: They don't want to be one of those living zombies.

In a time where everyone strives for individuality it feels like looking out on a snow-capped field: We know every snow flake is individual, yet put together they all look the same. But in the end the question remains, are we being individual for ourselves or for others?

And so the hunt for for life and its meaning continues until the crack of dawn.

As you might know already I am deeply in love with Como and this hotel is a magnificent place to stay. It is located in Moltrasio - a little bit outside from Como. You can go there by boat or by car. If you book in advance it is not too expensive and you feel like you are in the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel. At least when you are standing in the garden and in front of the hotel - it is quite impressive.

Palmenhaus Vienna

I've spent the last weekend in Vienna with my friend and Romie from Bellemelle
I always feel home instantly when I arrive in Vienna. The city is somehow very similar to Switzerland but at the same time there is something warm which makes me feel happy everytime I come back. This is why I'd like to share my personal tips where to go on your city trip in vienna.
I had an amazing stay at Pentahotels Vienna - more about this place will follow in a later entry.
We were at one of my favorite coffeeplaces called Phil where you can brunch and read all the books they have in the store. IThey offer a great collection of art and philosophical books and all the furniture in the café is vintage and for sale. This makes the place very unique and vivid.
It is also a must for me to go to the Palmenhaus (where you could also brunch - just make sure to reserve a table early enough). It is located next to a park and in front of the Albertina Museum.
And as well the opera house and the Sacher Hotel and Café are in walking distance.
So make sure to go there, enjoy a Cappuccino and do some people watching.

Military Remix - quilted jackets and embroideries

Its been a while since my last update on the blog. I've been traveling and we realized a lot of cool projects at work. So the ones following me on Instagram and checking out the Instastories might have seen where I was hiding.
First two weeks in Bali where I almost didn't came back. First of all because of the beauty of this island and it's warmhearted people. Second because I spent too much time in the sun and had a bad experience with pretty serious sunstroke for several days. In the end we made it back and brought countless memories home. If you would like to hear more about our travels - I consider writing an article dedicated to Bali and the places we explored.

We are already in the middle of Fall here in Switzerland, even if I somehow missed the point where this slight change from warm Summer to cold temperatures happened.
These pictures were taken when you still could walk around with bare legs - and some of you live in places on this world where you probably still can. So just add some tights if you live in one of those not so warm countries and the look will work. I am wearing one of my favorite pieces out of the Diesel Fall Winter Collection, the Military quilted jacket with embroideries. Even though I was never a huge fan of military, this one piece made me fall in love.

I am wearing:

Quilted Military Jacket with Embroidery: Diesel FW16
Leather Dress with Embroidery: Zara
Ankle Boots with Silver Buckles: Diesel FW16

While traveling you end up at places you've never been before, sometimes only for a very short amount of time. Especially if I travel alone for work or for the blog I really love to stay somewhere where I instantly feel at home. Of course the people you meet make the essential difference on journeys but a good place makes the perfect base.

Whenever I am in Vienna I love to stay at Pentahotel. It is a well designed hotel with a super cozy lobby where you can just hang around and work. And of course order lots of Capucchinos.
I've got the same feelings for the Ruby Hotels in Vienna. They have super cool interior design and lovely rooms with amazing sound systems in there. And the coolest bar staff which will prepare you drinks in the middle of the night when you come back from the airport after a cancelled flight.

In Amsterdam I love the Volkshotel, they also offer a huge working area and a nice restaurant which turns into a bar and restaurant for external guests as well. In the evenings they are having concerts and parties. That way you can work remote and also get to know local people easily.

I'm still trying to find those places all over the world - so if you have any suggestions let me know.
I will share my most actual favorites from time to time on the blog.
On the pictures you see me in the lobby of Penta Hotel Vienna.

Coated Denim: Diesel
Boots with Buckles: Diesel
Leather Jacket: Diesel

Surfing in November - Surferslodge Peniche with Surfzurich

$

If you follow my instagram account you will probably have realized that I am still indulging in the memories of the trip we did with surfzurich. We had just the perfect conditions. With some lovely friends we stayed at the Surfers Lodge in Peniche, Portugal. They offered everything you could wish for. Even an amazing rooftop with pool and jacuzzi and a lot of space to do morning Yoga with a view. The food they served (we had burgers and fresh fish) was really delicious.
The surf breaks are a 10minutes walk further down the street and you can get bikes or skates for free to get down there. We mostly surfed Lagide.
Together with two friends I booked some surf lessons there to improve.
We were very lucky with our guide. Always looking for the right spot for us, nice waves, not too crowded and according to our level. After some bigger waves in Bali in October I was a bit blocked and had to overcome the fear of waves. Felt pretty stupid and you know all the time it is only mental but hesitation in the water will only bring you wipeouts. So I was insisting on small waves to get the confidence back. Surfing is an amazing sport but you need a lot of patience. And I always have a lot of respect of the ocean. Especially if I don't now the spot I want to learn first about current or the underground and of course check tides before going out. There are days were everything is perfect and even bigger waves are easy to take, but then it happens that nothing goes right and you feel like you never surfed before.

So for me it is the best to take lessons again from time to time. The nice thing here is as well, that almost every guide will teach you something on top you haven't known before.

To not shorten the fashion part of this blog I am sharing a Peniche style with you.
Most important was to stay comfy and warm. Temperatures were mild this time, but after you've been in the water you get cold pretty quick. Our bags contained warm sweaters, down jackes, beanies and ugg boots to be safe. The day these pictures were taken was actually the warmest one.

I am very happy to share a special project I've been working on some weeks ago.
To celebrate the ten years anniversary of the evian limited editions the initiators of the project, Christian Lacroix and evian united for a second time. The characteristic Paseo design was newly interpreted according to the "Live Young" philosophy of evian.

To celebrate the ten years anniversary of the evian limited editions the initiators of the project, Christian Lacroix and evian united for a second time. The characteristic Paseo design was newly interpreted according to the "Live Young" philosophy of evian.

I had the pleasure to work together with evian to put the bottles in scene. So this is actually how our dinner table looks every night - or maybe not. But the cozy winter edition is very true to the style of our flat. So you get a little insight of how we live.
And of course the cookies on the table are a must next to the beautiful evian glass bottles.
They are an eyecatcher on every festive table. And of course also to enlighten your daily water moments.  I love the fact that you can also use the bottles for decoration once they are empty.

In Switzerland you can get the bottles in selected warehouses, restaurants and hotels.
I'm happy I've got some at my place already.

Urban Boho - how to combine knits in winter

Even if I don't like the cold I love to be able to wear knits again. If the knit is in good quality - here I mean natural material like cotton or mohair or even cashmere it will keep you warm. Like this you can still wear your leatherjackets in colder temperatures. With adding some accessories the look gets fashionable. I still take out the same hat season after season because somehow it seems to stay trendy. How to you handle the colder season in terms of fashion?

Another day, another look. I am back from my short weekend escape to Paris and behind the laptop to edit some pictures we recently shot. Long train rides are the perfect moment to spend on blog entries. As you will see as well in upcoming posts, I am totally into the "all black" look right now. I am completely in love with that sweater jacket with leather sleeves from Diesel. It has an amazing detail on the end of the sleeves, such a nice mix of textures. And the hoodie makes it perfect. The fact that I'm actually allowed to wear such a look at work is definitely one of the perks of working in the fashion industry.

I'll be back on the blog with some X-mas surprises for you very soon- so  don't forget to check out my page the next days. If you follow my instagram @bonsoircherieblog  you won't miss it.

Christmas is slowly approaching and for those of you who still haven't found the perfect gift for their beloved ones, I have a little selection for you.
Something for bookworms, film lovers, star wars fans, your BFF, your roomie.

I really love the jewelry collection of Malaika Raiss. I definitely could buy all of her pendant necklaces. But my favorites are from the dinolove series, the T Rex and from the Star Wars series the Darth Vader or the AT AT. You can add the jewelry to your fan sweater to be ready to watch Rogue One, the newest part of the Star Wars movies which is out since some days.

For the ones who love to just sit at home and browse through your book collection I have some wonderful suggestions. I admire the pictures of Slim Aarons and Peter Lindbergh or the Honey Ryder from local swiss photographer Silvano Zeiter. These photo books are a beauty on your coffee table.

And for the guys - or the girls among us who love this fantastic classic - the James Bond Archives book gives you a detailed overview about every James Bond movie with lots of film stills.
And if you get in the mood to watch the movies you can get the James Bond DVD Collection on top.

For the ones who love decoration the sweet home this little cactus lamp seems perfect to me to bring some summer feelings into the winter. As well as the lovely little ballon dog in Jeff Koons style will bring some fun into your flat. And if you want to add the soundtrack you can get an UE Boom 2 which is not only super stylish but also delivers the perfect sound.

You have the chance to win one of the UE Boom Boxes in my recent entry - don't forget to take part!

Have a happy Sunday!
